While filling your application for further studies, you will notice that most Schools will ask you to submit additional materials like CV, Personal Statement or Motivation letter.

Although, these two terms- Personal Statements and Motivation letters are used interchangeably by most applicants, but there is a difference between the duo.

For clarity purposes, the main difference lies in the INTENT of the letter.

Personal Statement is all about PROMOTING yourself:

  • Who you are.
  • Why you are the right candidate for the programme
    *Your background.
    *Your life changing experiences etc.

In a motivation Letter, it is very appropriate you talk about yourself briefly, but you MUST go deep here by talking about:

  • Why you are applying for the programme
  • Why you applied to the specific institution.
  • Your career goals, and
  • How and why the Programme will help you achieve your goals!

In most schools, submitting a Personal Statement or Motivation letter is a necessary condition; if you don’t submit it, you won’t be considered for admission.
Sending the wrong document might lead to you being rejected from programme you are applying to.
