About the Global Studies Scholarship The Global
Studies bachelor’s programme equips students to tackle complex global challenges by integrating insights across disciplines and regions. Unique in the Netherlands, it unites six faculties to shape its educational content. Students engage in transformative experiences, such as field studies in the Global South, developing solutions for societal issues with NGOs or agencies, and crafting interdisciplinary theses. The UM Global Studies Scholarship provides full coverage, including tuition and a stipend, to top-performing students from the Global South with exceptional potential, admitted to the programme.
Benefits of the Global Studies Scholarships
The Maastricht University Global Studies Scholarship provides comprehensive financial support to outstanding students from the Global South admitted to the Global Studies programme. It covers full tuition fees, a monthly stipend of €15,925 per academic year for living expenses, health and liability insurance, visa application costs, and Pre-Academic Training expenses, all paid directly by the institution. This scholarship ensures recipients can focus entirely on their studies without financial barriers, enabling them to excel academically and personally.
Requirements for Global Studies Scholarship Qualification To qualify for the Maastricht University Global Studies Scholarship, applicants must hold nationality from the Global South, as defined by OECD classifications, and meet visa and residence permit requirements for the Netherlands. Candidates with dual nationality from the Global North or prior degree-seeking experience in the Netherlands are not eligible, though exchange students may apply. Applicants must be under 35 years old as of September 1, 2025, and agree to serve as active ambassadors for Global Studies and UM during and after their studies by participating in informational events. Admission to the Global Studies programme for the 2025-2026 academic year is a prerequisite.
