
The StuartHall Foundation Studentship Scholarships at University of Sussex is a fully funded scholarship opportunity for outstanding students to study at the prestigious university. The University of Sussex, in collaboration with the Stuart Hall Foundation (SHF), is offering a fully funded Postgraduate Research (PGR) studentship for the 2025-26 academic year.
This initiative aims to support Black British students pursuing doctoral studies in Arts, Humanities, or Social Sciences. The studentship may also include a Master’s qualification year for candidates without a prior Master’s degree. This program is inspired by the legacy of Professor Stuart Hall and seeks to address pressing issues of race and inequality in society.
Eligibility for the StuartHall Foundation Studentship Scholarships
To be considered for this studentship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Background: Identify as Black British.
• Residency: Qualify for Home fees status in the UK.
• Research Focus: Propose research that addresses social justice issues and contributes to overcoming barriers faced by marginalized groups. • Academic Qualifications: Hold a relevant Master’s degree or possess equivalent professional experience.

• Program Admission: Secure admission to a PhD program commencing in October 2025 within one of the following schools at the University of Sussex:
• Faculty of Media, Arts and Humanities
• School of Global Studies
• University of Sussex Business School
• School of Law, Politics and Sociology
• School of Education and Social Work

Applicants should demonstrate a strong academic background and/or relevant professional experience. Preference is given to candidates from underrepresented or disadvantaged backgrounds. Research proposals should align with areas of interest to Stuart Hall, including:
